I’d like to buy a very basic email/internet computer for my grandmother who is 91 and has never used a computer before. All she would need it for is to email and MAYBE use internet if we can convince her it’s not too difficult. It can’t be the ASUS Eee because that screen would be too small, I think. And seriously, it would need nothing else – no microsoft word, no gaming, nothing. Any ideas? Thanks!!

How about a Mac Mini? Hook it up to any flat-screen LCD monitor or a big-screen HDTV (one that can display fonts big enough for your grandmother), connect it to a router/broadband modem (wirelessly or wired), and she’s ready to rock. http://www.apple.com/macmini/

With a never-ending flow of spam on the Internet people are careful with every new message they receive. Some people immediately delete suspicious emails without opening them, others use anti-spam filters that block any email they consider as spam. It’s great if you already have a list of subscribers, to which you are sending newsletters at a regular basis. People know who you are and most likely have your email address in their address books or whitelists, so your email is let through with no problems.
But what about the first email campaign? How can you maximize the chances of getting a decent response from your first mailing?
The first email campaign often gets a low response rate. In some degree this is due to the product or service you are offering, or the design of the website. But a great part of it is in the message itself.
Follow these simple rules and your email campaign should be successful right from the beginning:
1) Don’t send from a forged or non existing email address. Use your valid email in the email From field. People can reply to your message so be sure the replies arrive to a real person.
2) Know what you want to achieve by your email before you sit down and write it. Do you want more visitors to your website? More sales for your products? More signups to your newsletter? Whatever aim you have, keep it in mind while writing your email.
3) Spell it right. There’s nothing worse than receiving a marketing email with poor spelling and grammar. Read and re-read your message a few times to discover and correct possible mistakes and typos.
4) Don’t write too long. Split the text into paragraphs. Keep the paragraphs short and punchy – you have very little time to grab people’s attention. Use simple words, short phrases and paragraphs consisting of just 1-3 short sentences.
5) Don’t use all capital letters! The text in all capitals is difficult to read and looks like you are shouting. Occasional use of capital letters to emphasize a word is ok, but be aware that some spam filters delete email messages with words all in capitals.
6) Call to action. In first two sentences of your email tell people who you are, and what you want them to do. Then you can use the rest of the email to expand on your products and services.
7) Deadline. Set a deadline for your offer by using phrases such as “First 100 to apply” or “The Offer Expires on December 25, 2006″ – fear of missing out on something always generates a good click through.
Send a text version of your message together with the HTML part. Don’t neglect the text version. Make sure it is composed well. It can be useful for those recipients who can read only text emails due to security reasons or email client configuration. If you compose your newsletter in G-Lock EasyMail, the program automatically creates a text version of the message and sends it together with the HTML part. You can also preview the text part before sending the message out and adjust it as you need.
9) Provide a way to unsubscribe. People must have a quick way to remove themselves from your mailing list. It may be an unsubscribe link somewhere at the bottom of your email. Don’t forget to exclude from your list those recipients who unsubscribed.
10) Always send a test message to yourself or your coworkers. The message can display differently after it is received by an email client. Make sure that everything is in place: images are shown, links are working, and text is formatted as it must be. Is everything looks fine, you are ready to send out to the world.

I’ve had verizon for almost 2 years and I’m going to upgrade soon.
I was thinking of getting a blackberry but I don’t want to pay monthly for internet and email.
I just want to use the phone for texting and calling.
I was wondering if you have to pay for picture messaging also.
No you do not need to have the internet / email to use a Blackberry. I currently am using a Blackberry 8100 Pearl that does not use the internet / email. You should buy an "Unlocked" Blackberry (This is a phone that will access all network providers, T-Mobil, AT&T, etc… using your old SIM card). This will allow you to use your phone as a pay as you go phone. As a pay as you go phone I can talk, text and send picture messages no problem.

Over the last year, I have seen many of my family and friends go from the entrepreneurial perspective of wanting to build multiple funnels of income on the side, to losing their jobs and needing to make money NOW. Businesses have closed, jobs have been eliminated, but there are still mortgages to pay and groceries to buy.
I can’t fix the economy and I can’t bring back all of those jobs, but I have a few ideas that can help put folks back on the right track. I have a few strategies and nuggets of advice to help get you out there where people can find you and bring opportunity to you, if that’s what you want.
Since I specialize in online marketing strategies, my ideas usually require access to a computer and a working internet connection. If the internet service has had to be canceled so that money could go toward house payments, I surely understand. Perhaps you have an inexpensive internet café in the area where you could go periodically, or a local hotel lobby computer you could use. Of course, when asking to use free internet resources – and when looking for income opportunities – I highly recommend presenting yourself cleanly, professionally, and with the graceful ability to take “no” for an answer. How you handle yourself when you hear the word “no” can make a big difference in whether people keep you in mind for other opportunities.
So, you have access to a computer with an internet connection. You need to equip yourself with two things:
- A free internet e-mail account
- A www.Twitter.com account
These two things are the foundation of your internet networking infrastructure. It’s where everything begins.
An internet e-mail account is crucial for many reasons. Almost every internet site, every online form you fill out, every opportunity to get in on the free information requires that you give an e-mail address so you can:
- Be sent the information
- Help the website stay in legal compliance by proving that you really requested the information that they’re sending you (proving that they’re not sending you “spam”).
- Send you any opportunities that may interest you – you don’t want to miss out on an idea or event that could get you that next job or make you more money.
You’ve heard of internet “spam”, of course. If you’re really worried about it, open two free e-mail accounts – one for your personal and professional correspondence and one that you leave on websites that send you information.
There are many free internet e-mail services, so having two e-mail addresses won’t cost you a thing. I have personally used www.mail.com for years, and have found their internet e-mail service to be reliable and very easy-to-use.
Also, using an internet e-mail service is portable – you can log in to your e-mail address from any computer that has internet access.
A Twitter account is the way to network with people who have ideas and information that you want. You’ve heard about it on the news, and you might be wondering why people put so much stock into a website where everyone just writes a sentence or two about what they’re doing right now. You might also be wondering how Twitter is different from other sites where people do the same thing: type a few sentences about what they’re doing right now.
Here’s the big difference – the difference that can open doors for you:
Other networking sites like Facebook and MySpace are mostly for people to talk, but not to advertise, unless they’re intentionally buying ad space. Those sites have a complicated set of rules regarding what you can advertise and how you can advertise it – even when you have a legitimate, legal business or offer. Twitter THRIVES on the independent marketing community. Twitter is an exchange of links, ideas, and opportunities where its members are encouraged to point their friends to new opportunities.
On Twitter, you can put yourself out there, without talking, without interviewing, and without cutting into your time pursuing other money-making avenues. Let’s say you were just laid off from your job at the plastics factory, and you’re looking for a new job. You could post on Twitter, “Lost my injection molding job in Elgin, IL. Looking for a new job.”
There are people on Twitter doing searches on keywords that will find you, and perhaps follow you on Twitter. Maybe there is an HR person at another plastics factory nearby who is on Twitter, and every day he does a search on the keywords “injection molding”. Your post about losing your job in injection molding would pop up in his search. He might send you a message to let you know he’s interviewing.
You can use Twitter keyword searching, too. You can do that keyword search on “injection molding”, and start to follow other Twitter users that look like they have the same interests as you.
The larger your Twitter network, the greater your chances of finding your next money-making opportunity. I hope you’ll add me to your list – I like to post about new online marketing strategies and information about the online market makers that invent it all. My Twitter ID is JJ_DigiMM.
You don’t want people to sell anything to you? No problem. You can pick and choose what you read. Here’s what’s in it for you: you can market on Twitter, too.
You don’t have a product? You don’t like to sell things? No problem. I’ll have suggestions for that, too, in my next installment. In the meantime, there are a lot more free articles on internet marketing on www.DigiMarketMakers.com and the Online Market Makers Blog: www.OnlineMarketMakersBlog.com.
By putting your internet networking infrastructure in place, you’re setting the stage for finding ways to bring money back into your household.
Stay positive and start building.

i really like this phone, and am dying for the internet, somebody help!
(by the way, internet+email comes with V Cast Video right? or The video on this phone comes for free, and adds on nothing to the phone bill?
The amount that you pay for service depends on many things; but, expect to pay about $70 if you want unlimited usage. To make the most out of this phone, and get the things you have mentioned above, then you should probably get a CONNECT plan…. A SELECT plan will be fine as well, as long as you limit your usage of applications, internet, and VCast.

Before chosing a plan, make sure to compare the plans to make sure you are not getting overcharged, or have to end up paying more becuase you are using too many megabytes on the phone.

Email is a revolutionary means of communication facilitated by the advances in information technology. With the acceleration of e-commerce as a consequence of these same technological innovations, email is now a significant means of marketing products and services through the internet. Through email, myriad companies and businesses have a convenient means of reaching potential consumers. Through email, marketing copies get delivered directly to a person’s inbox; companies no longer had to wait for consumers to come across their ads in the internet.
Video Email’s Power
Video email is a modification to proven internet marketing methods. Through video email, your recipients no longer have to slog through text advertising copy. Even if your marketing copy contains wonderful graphics and engaging text, you cannot always expect an individual to read them when other more pressing email communications await their attention. That’s why for all the emails you sent in a day, only a minute fraction would respond to your advertisement and visit your web site link.
Video emails are more powerful than traditional email marketing copies. Busy people will have more time to watch than read copy. Your video presentation can be as short as thirty seconds. Studies have shown that most people will watch at least two thirds of that presentation. Given an ingenious video email copy, this short span of time can be enough to arouse your recipients’ interest in your product or services and induce them to take time off their busy schedules to visit your web site. If you doubt the impact of video presentations as marketing tools, then you just have to think about the enormous boost in sales that result from TV infomercials.
Video Email’s Weaknesses
There are reasons why most companies prefer sending graphic and text email advertisements rather than video email. One of the most important reasons for some marketing professionals’ reluctance to shift over to video email marketing campaigns is the fact that recipients of these emails do not use the same video platforms and standards. There’s just no way to determine the recipients’ level of computer technology so that the appropriate video format could be sent to each person’s inbox.
One other weakness is the large file size of each video email marketing copy. This obstacle is hardly insurmountable but this is nonetheless a problem.
Solutions to Video Email Problems
Fortunately, there are now video email hosting companies that can solve the abovementioned problems associated with video email marketing campaigns. To solve the large file size problem, you can send an abbreviated video clip that when played will automatically connect the viewer to your video email server. This means that you only have to use a fraction of the actual video file size in your video email marketing copy.
To solve the problem about incompatible video platforms, some video email hosting providers have applications that can instantaneously detect the viewers’ video playing capabilities the moment the recipients click the preview. The appropriate video format is then selected and loaded. This means that every video email gets viewed properly whatever the recipient’s video standard.
Given video email’s flexibility and undeniable persuasive powers, isn’t it time to take advantage of video email in your internet marketing campaigns? I for one think that it is.

When it comes to internet marketing when you are working at home there are a variety of ways to reach potential customers. One of these methods is by way of email marketing. Email marketing is a form of internet marketing that works very well. Email marketing is cost effective and it is a way of being creative and innovative with your audience. Let’s take a look at the five steps to making email marketing work for your home-based business.
Step one is to cultivate as many names of prospective customers as you can as well as email addresses and from here you can start to build an email list. As time goes on you may be able to gather more information from those who show an interest in your business. As well encourage individuals to become a part of your email list from the website you created especially for your business.
Step two is to devise a plan by establishing what goals you have for working from home. What do you wish to accomplish by way of email marketing? In most cases it is to have good communication and rapport with customers and clients but pinpoint for yourself exactly what your goals are.
Step three is to decide how often you will send out emails and on what days. Many companies find that email marketing is very effective on a weekly basis. Experiment by sending emails out on different days of the week and at different times of the day and pay attention to the responses you get. For example send an email on Thursday morning or Saturday evening or Tuesday afternoon. You decide the frequency just don’t make it too often but don’t let too much time elapse between each email to customers either.
Step four involves choosing the format as well as what content you will send out to interested parties. An online newsletter is a conventional form of internet marketing that works well but so is other things such as announcements about your at home business, updates during the holidays, coupon promotions and special-offer promotions.
Step five is a very easy one- have fun with what you have created. Working at home is an endeavour that should open doors and should bring you much joy. As a form of internet marketing, email marketing should be fun. If you like share drawings and photos of yourself and your family with your subscribers and educate your customers about your home-based business. Talk about whatever you feel is relevant and will keep your customers coming back for more.

Electronic mail, or commonly known as email, is one of the popular methods of modern communications. Through the email services, you will be able to compose, send, store, and receive messages over recognized electronic communication system. Moreover, it also allows you to attach computer-related files (computer files such as images and audio entries as well as word documents and computer-generated spreadsheet) to your email messages, making it an effective tool in exchange of information on the Internet. The use of email is not just ideal for personal purposes but for business purposes as well.
Speaking of business purposes, do you know that email is one of the popular promotional tools used on Internet marketing? According to the study conducted by the Winterberry Group, a consulting firm that works on marketing services, direct marketing, and marketing technology of online-based companies, email promotions yields an average of $15.50 return of investment for every dollar spent. It is equivalent to a 17 percent return of investment than the conventional mail campaigns and 73 percent more than telemarketing campaigns.
In other words, the study shows that email promotion is not just a popular promotional tool but also a cost-effective strategy on Internet marketing businesses. Through sending out at least a single email newsletter to interested individuals, you will be able to build your subscriber base that will be your primary source of web traffic and revenues. With every dollar that you will spend on sending out email newsletters, you will save substantial amounts of money from acquiring prospects and clients.
Sending relevant email communications to various individuals who requested for such information is the most effective way of establishing a relationship with him and later turns him into your clients and your clients into long-term product evangelizers.
To achieve your goal of earning substantial amounts of money on your Internet marketing business, you decide to adopt the email promotion method and start sending out several newsletters to your present clients and prospects. However, there are important rules that you need to follow in email promotion that will increase your chances of achieving all your marketing objectives, whether to increase repeated orders, convert attracted web traffic into long-term clients, or obtain high quality of branding awareness.
So what are the rules? First, send email correspondence to individuals who have requested it. For instance, you are into an affiliate program wherein you are tasked to endorse a merchant’s website pertaining to travel and adventure planning. When someone subscribed to your email newsletter, do not move them over to your affiliate’s vacation list and instead send them email containing articles on various ways of how they can enjoy traveling in this particular place. It would be better that you send him monthly email newsletters with regularly-updated information on other topics, but do not mix your newsletter bases just because you want to increase your mailing volume. Remember that sending out-of-topic email newsletters will just be the ground of losing your present and potential clients later on.
The second rule that you need to follow when you prefer email promotion for your Internet marketing business is to be consistent with the frequency of email newsletters sent. Depending on the kind of Internet marketing business you are into as well as your subscriber’s level of interest, the appropriate volume for you could be weekly or monthly. Once you have found the appropriate email sending frequency to your subscribers, stick with it. You will be able to attract more potential clients since they know when they can expect to receive a fresh email newsletter from you.
Aside from the aforementioned rules in email promotion, there are various considerations as well so that you will be able to get more potential clients for your Internet marketing business. These are as follows:
1. If you have your mailing list, you must have an auto responder service. This will send email newsletters to your mailing list on a regular basis without any human intervention.
2. Aside from the auto responder service, you must also include opt-in forms on your site for individuals who wish to add their names to your mailing list. The auto responder company will provide an HTML code that would be pasted into your site.
3. Use the auto responder service’s tracking system to identify which of your email newsletters are opened by your subscribers and lead to additional web traffic to your site.
By following the rules and considerations in email promotions, you will be able to achieve your marketing goals and succeed in your Internet marketing business.
