I need to keep in touch with my email and a couple of internet applications on the move. What would be better?

Best way to avail Internet on the move – Choose between a BlackBerry phone or a data card hooked to a laptop ?

As seeing your needs you should definitely go for some good mobile device such as Blackberry Curve which boasts of Blackberry applications or just choose some Nokia E-series phone such as E75 which boasts of Nokia Messaging Service, it is even easier to configure e-mail on this device than any blackberry, plus it has slideable qwerty keyboard, 3G, Video calling, a good 3.2 Mpx camera- A great combination of business applications and fun on the move! Much better than blackberry!

Blackberry has the best on-the-go e-mail application on the planet. Go with that and you wont regret it.

A BlackBerry would be good if you really are crunched for time or space, but I always like having an actual computer, it feels more spacious when I’m working on it.

I’d say a blackberry would suit you fine. You can access the net on the move, and a small device in your pocket is a much better way of staying connected than hauling around a laptop. You can also check your personal email on your blackberry, and some providers such as Vodafone give a “limited” and more cost effective service at a subsidised Rs 300 odd a month that will allow you to do most of what you mentioned. You can always opt for the full service, which of course, costs more. Airtel I think charges around Rs 250 for the low cost Blackberry plan. Not sure about tariffs charged by the CDMA providers Tata and Reliance. You may check this out http://www.vodafone.in/existingusers/vbs/pages/blackberry_lite.aspx
